Don’t be Deficient

Regarding the general population, two simple truths:

  • People do not get enough vitamins and minerals
  • People do not get enough Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids.

To fall short on these is to fall short on the following benefits

  • Better absorption of some vitamins
  • Improved joint health
  • Improved energy
  • Increased positive hormone production
  • Surpassed stress hormone (cortisol)
  • Increased metabolic rate
  • Promoted muscle growth

Even athletes, who tend to eat more and with more consideration - often fall short.

The main reason they struggle is because you simply have to eat unreasonable amounts of a variety of foods to hit the RDA of each. (Think chewing through a small mountain of widely ranged veg on a daily basis to hit your vitamins)

In regard to the Omega 3’s

  • 85g of salmon provides 1-2g of Omega 3 - Ideally you want around 5 grams of Omega 3’s

Thats a lot of salmon!

Would I rather you conquer mount fruit and veg and eat grizzly bear-like quantities of oily fish - yes! Does the typical person do this - no.

Omega 3 is present in oily fish like Salmon and Mackeral, as well as some nuts and seeds.

Absolutely have a go to the best of your ability, but understand that you will most likely still fall short. How do we fix this? Supplementation.

Its worth clarifying

THESE WORK BEST AS A SUPPLEMENTATION TO A HEALTHY DIET

Its also worth mentioning

SUPPLEMENTATION IS BETTER THAN NOTHING

As we always say, the good action you do yields greater results than the optimal action you don’t do. Make an effort to the best of your ability and use a supplement to fill the gaps.

Either way, you should probably invest in a multivitamin and some fish oil (or in the case of vegetarians/vegans flax oil)

On waking I consume

  • 15g of fish oil (5 grams of Omega 3)
  • A multivitamin tablet with a pint of water
15grams of fish oil in an espresso cup - its barely a sip!

It takes me about a minute, is cheap and easy. The benefit far outweighs the sacrifice and is one of the most easily constructed habits I have ever consciously created. In this case, optimal isn't so tough!

In other words - Plenty of bang for my buck!

Try it for one month and I genuinely think you feel the difference.
